Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)
Help your child learn new skills or overcome problem behaviors
ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) is a scientific approach that uses positive reinforcement and other behavior modification techniques to help your child learn new skills, reduce problem behaviors, and improve their quality of life. This kind of specialized, personalized therapy has been proven to be an effective tool for children with a wide range of challenges, including those on the autism spectrum, those with ADHD, and those struggling with anxiety or other behavioral difficulties.
Advantages of ABA
Our clinical team of Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) and Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) can work with you and your child to develop personalized modules to help with a wide variety of skills and challenges, including:
- Communication skills: ABA can help children with speech and language delays, as well as those who struggle with nonverbal communication like eye contact or gestures.
- Social skills: ABA can teach children how to interact with others appropriately, such as taking turns, making friends, and showing empathy.
- Academic skills: ABA can help children with learning disabilities or who struggle with academic tasks like reading, writing, or math.
- Behavioral difficulties: ABA can help children who struggle with problem behaviors such as aggression, self-injury, or tantrums.
- Anxiety and phobias: ABA can teach children coping skills to manage anxiety and reduce phobias.
- Autism spectrum disorder (ASD): ABA is a widely accepted treatment for children with ASD, as it can help with social communication, behavior, and academic skills.
Evidence-based therapy
Numerous studies exist showing the effectiveness of ABA therapy for children with learning or developmental disorders. A comprehensive National Autism Center review found ABA to be the only treatment approach with sufficient evidence to be classified as “established”. In randomized controlled trials, children receiving ABA therapy showed greater improvement in language, adaptive behavior, and IQ. Most studies report significant improvements in communication, social skills, and behavior, and a meta-analysis found ABA therapy resulted in significant improvements in language, cognitive function, and adaptive behavior.
